Blackpool Illuminations 2009 will run from 4th September to 8th November, and the switch on weekend will include a line up of celebrities performing live in the resort. The 2009 illuminations will start Friday 4 September with Alan Carr switching the lights on. The famous comedian will be accompanied by acts such as Madness, JLS, Paloma Faith, Pixie Lott and Tony Christie performing in the concert that has now become an integral aspect of Blackpool illuminations. On Saturday 5th September there will be a concert at the Empress Ballroom staring such performers as, Mika, Newton Faulkner, Pixi Lott, Daniel Merriweather and Will Young. Kate Thornton will present the show and there will be a live broadcast between 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm. on BBC radio 2. During the switch on weekend the station will also present a series of live shows compeered by some of its most famous DJs. There will be other free events such as beach volleyball, the World Fireworks Championships, and the Honda Goldwings Light Parade.
.Blackpool Illuminations 2009 switch on weekend will take place on 4 – 6 September with a strong cast of celebrities taking part., and it is expected to be the best the resort has ever seen. In addition to the concerts, there will be a number of events taking place over the weekend. On Friday 4 and Monday 7 September, Volley On The Prom will be held from 5 pm. to 7 pm at St Chad’s Headland. At the same location, Volleyball England Beach Tour 2009 Finals will be held on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. Saturday will also see the opening of St John’s on Church Street – with entertainment commencing at 1 pm. followed by a variety of performances and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen carrying out the opening ceremony. Also on Saturday there will be the magnificent Honda Goldwing Light Parade which will start at 8 pm from Pontins and will involve about 150 Motorbikes. They will travel northwards along the Promenade to Gynn Square and back again. The first heat of the World Fireworks Championship will be held on Sunday 6 September and will feature pyrotechnics experts from France, with the build up to the display commencing at 7.30 pm, weather permitting.
